How to choose LED Button Switches for Video Switchers?

The choice of LED pushbutton switches in the video production and control panel manufacturing chain can have a significant impact on functionality and user experience. As LED pushbutton switch manufacturers, our mission is to provide your video switchers and control panels with switches that are not only reliable but also enhance the overall sense of user experience. This blog will explore the types of LED pushbutton switches that are best suited for your needs and how they can enhance your products.

LED push button switches play a pivotal role in control panels and video switchers. They provide the operator with clear tactile feedback and clear visual cues to help the operator receive and give instructions.

There are 3 main factors that contribute to the differentiation of tactile feedback for pushbutton switches:

  1. Button travel
The tactile feedback brought by different pressing travel is completely different, even a 1mm change will affect the final use of the feeling.
  2. Feeling when pressing
This feeling mainly comes from two aspects, one is the size of the operating force, which determines how much force the user needs to exert to make it work and issue commands when pressing; the second is the tactile feedback after the button is pressed, some buttons can maintain a consistent feel from the beginning of the stroke to the end of the release of the rebound, and the tactile feedback in this case mainly originates from the sense of pause after the button is pressed to the end. There is another type of button that will maintain a soothing support at the beginning of the press, when the press is closer to the bottom of the button’s sense of damping will be stronger, the end of the stroke after the release of the rebound will also be more forceful, this more linear tactile feedback also allows users to use a clear sense of the button’s operation.
  3. Types of button actuators
The common types of actuators are spring, conductive silicone, pot piezoe and reed switch, different materials bring a completely different sense of touch.

The integration of LEDs adds a layer of intuitiveness, aiding in easy identification and operation, even in low-light conditions.

LEDs can be broadly categorized into conventional circuit-connected LEDs and addressable LEDs according to the way they are used.

  1. Conventional circuit-connected LED is generally divided into single-color lights, Bi-color lights, and RGB lights.
Single-color lamps can only emit one color of light. Bi-color lamps can generally emit two colors of light, as well as two colors mixed out of the light. Taking red and blue bicolor led as an example, it can emit single blue and single red as well as blue plus red mixed out of the purple color. RGB lamps can generally emit seven colors i.e. red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, magenta, and white.

2. Addressable LED relies on WS2812 intelligent control LED light source, control circuit, and RGB chip integrated into a component package, with an internal oscillator, constant current control, and automatic refresh transmission technology. Each pixel can display 256 levels of brightness to achieve 16777216 full-color displays with low drive voltage, environmental protection, high brightness, large scattering angle, high consistency, low power consumption, and long life.

So how do we determine what kind of LED PUSH BUTTON SWITCH is suitable for our equipment?
I think we can consider the following points.

  1. Durability and Reliability: The switch must withstand frequent use and provide consistent performance.

For the broadcasting industry, I think 500,000 times – 2 million times of mechanical life is enough to meet the demand. You can choose the specific operating life according to the application scenario and product positioning. For video switchers, 2 million cycles is a safe choice.

2. Dimensions and PCB Layout: This should fit comfortably within the panel layout and be easily operable.

Different devices have varying requirements for the size of button caps. In most cases, small switch panels use LED push button switches with the same cap size, while large switch panels use 2-3 different cap sizes of LED push button switches to better delineate functional areas. Commonly used sizes include 12mm, 15mm, and 17.4mm. If you want to stand out, adjustments can also be made to the cap size and shape.

PCB layout is a critical parameter in LED push button switches, as the right PCB layout facilitates easy soldering and installation. Therefore, until the PCB is seen, it is impossible to determine which LED push button switch it is.

3. Radium carving or film:

Radium carving or film is an important component of an LED push button switch. It clearly indicates the function of the button to the operator. Therefore, a high-quality radium carving or film process is also an important criterion to consider.

FAQs

Q1: What are the key features to look for in an LED button switch for video switchers and control panels?

A1: When selecting LED button switches for video switchers and control panels, prioritize durability for frequent use, ergonomic design for ease of operation, clear and visible LED illumination for different lighting conditions, and customizability for specific functionality and aesthetic requirements. These features ensure reliability and enhance the user experience.

Q2: How does the color functionality of LED button switches benefit video switcher and control panel operations?

A2: Multi-color LED button switches allow for color-coding of functions, which is particularly beneficial in video switchers and control panels. This color-coding aids operators in quickly identifying and accessing different controls, reducing the likelihood of errors and increasing operational efficiency in high-pressure environments.

Q3: Can LED button switches be customized to fit specific designs and operational needs of video switchers and control panels?

A3: Yes, LED button switches can be customized in various ways, including size, color, brightness, and labeling. This customization allows manufacturers to integrate these switches seamlessly into their specific product designs, ensuring that they meet both the functional and aesthetic requirements of the end users.

Q4: Are there specific types of LED button switches that are recommended for compact video switchers and control panels?

A4: For compact video switchers and control panels, low-profile LED button switches are recommended. These switches are designed to take up minimal space while still providing the necessary tactile feedback and visibility. This makes them ideal for tight control panel layouts where space efficiency is crucial.

Q5: How can I make sure that your LED push-button switch is compatible with our original PCB layout?

A5: The LED push-button switch produced by different manufacturers will have different pins, and the types of pins for our LED push-button switch can cover most of the designs on the market. Each model has detailed drawings for reference and confirmation.
